Why are Work from Home Jobs So Popular?

Although most of us at some point or another in our lifetime fantasize about working from home and breaking away from the structure of the 9 to 5 grind, for the vast majority it is but a fleeting daydream!  Often recurring, these visions of freedom lured by the thought of independence and flexibility that only work from home jobs can really offer, it’s little wonder that the new job sites online are listing 1000’s of work at home opportunities along with their regular listings. But just how genuine and viable are these work at home jobs, and how can you tell the scams from the genuine offers? If indeed there are any!

Anyone who is interested in home based job opportunities knows only too well that there’s a seeming abundance of stay at home employment offers around these days. A simple search for home based jobs online will undoubtedly expose you to so many work from home jobs, that you’re head will be spinning before you’re half way through!

Just as there have always been classified ads in newspapers and magazines offering phony get rich quick schemes, so the internet has its fair share of false promises and blatant scams too. It’s important therefore to treat any offerings of easy money with extreme caution. Just as a guide, here are a few common approaches to watch out for:

Make sure you know who you’re dealing with: Stay away from anyone who is offering to sell you training or materials in order to get your home based business or employment off to a flying start. No matter how convincing the sales spiel, click away without delay!

Ignore any Get Rich Quick programs like the plague: Starting a home-based business is no different to any other kind of business and requires a lot of hard work, a degree of skill and first rate products or services in order to succeed.

Watch out for emails that offer work-at-home opportunities: Many of these SPAM type emails are very cleverly written and convincing, but unless you know their source or specifically sent away for the information, treat them as fraudulent and direct them to your spam folder without further ado.

Other bits: Never pay for anything before getting all the details and also do a search online about the company, product, or service that interests you. If there’s a latent scam involved you’ll be sure to find reports about it online by those unfortunate folks that have already been had! Also, attempt to get references from others already doing what you’re interested in doing.

Of course, the above is related mainly to some kind of online interaction, but as we live in the world of the web, there are very few work at home opportunities that don’t require some kind of work online, whether it’s taking orders, filling out forms, emails, or the use of software programs. The 21st century sees more tapping of keyboards than the swinging pickaxes, and it’s perhaps just a matter of time when manual labor will be the stuff or museums and history books.

Some people would argue that anyone involved in a work at home business is cutting themselves out of main stream society, and that this lack of interaction with our fellows in the workplace is just another step towards breaking down the fabric of our already crumbling local communities. But whether we like it or not, neighbours and neighbourhoods are not the close nit communities they once were.

Work at home moms are nothing new of course, and throughout time many mothers and wives have made a little extra cash doing flexible jobs in their spare time from the comfort of the house. Such employment opportunities to be had from the comfort of your happy habitat might include; typing work, data entry, bookkeeping, billing, general clerical duties, mystery shopping, research, and a whole range of other job openings.

Modern times have brought with them all the technological changes and advances that have seen a plethora of new online jobs at home, and more specifically, dot com netentrepreneurs or solopreneurs as they are often referred to, are independently starting their own online businesses.

So whether you’re wanting to be a work at home typist, looking for some type of work at home computer jobs, or someone with an ambition to go it alone and join the thousands of folks who are already making money online selling goods or services on the virtual high street, it appears that more and more legitimate work at home opportunities are opening up all the time.

For me personally, I like to go to work. I like to get out of the house and interact with my friends and colleagues. What’s more, at the end of a hard day in the office, I look forward to coming home of an evening to relax with my wife and family. None of the above is possible if you don’t leave the house!

Additionally, if you take the path of a solopreneur, then you will need to adopt some incredible discipline whatever type of work from home job you embark upon. It’s all too easy to take a break when you feel like it, after all, there’s no one to answer to! I know because I tried it and failed. I was always slipping off for coffee with friends, or catching a TV show mid afternoon, or a crafty mid day nap. The work at home business model was not for me, but it could be just up your ally as it has worked and continues to work for many who want it.
